Votetogether.ca gathering steam

TORONTO, September 8, 2015  - Leadnow’s Vote Together campaign is gathering steam and connecting Canadians with the help they need to defeat the Harper Conservatives.

That help comes by way of a website: votetogether.ca

Created by Leadnow, an independent advocacy organization that includes over 460,000 people across Canada, votetogether.ca is a place where Canadians can get critical information to inform their vote. It offers information about the riding they live in, including which local candidate has the best chance of defeating the Conservatives, and opportunities to take action in key swing ridings.

“People across Canada are using the website to fundraise for polling in key swing ridings to give voters the best information so they can vote together for change,” says Amara Possian, the elections campaign manager for Leadnow. “Canadians are tired of our broken democracy where a majority of voters can vote for change and still see the Harper Conservatives win 100% of the power. ‘First past the post’ voting distorts democracy. We hope to change that.”

The response from Canadians across the country - especially people who have never been politically engaged before – is unprecedented. Since the website launched more than 86,000 people have visited, over 60,000 have pledged to #votetogether, and more than 1200 Canadians have signed up to canvass their neighbours or make phone calls from home into Conservative swing ridings.

“Canadians are making this happen because they know we need to work together to overcome our broken democracy,” added Possian. “We’re excited about the response we’re seeing from people across the country, and we’re working harder than ever to encourage others to join us.”

Leadnow was founded in 2010 and has no political affiliation. Its top areas of focus are creating a strong democracy, building a fair economy and ensuring a clean environment for all generations. Votetogether.ca will help voters connect for change and elect candidates that are committed to these three crucial issues.
