Port Moody Coquitlam

Canvassing in the suburbs presents a different challenges to those faced by organizing teams in cities. The team in Port Moody Coquitlam, in BC’s lower mainland, has embraced this challenge in a highly visible way.

Leadnow organizer Jolan Bailey gives us a look into the tactics used by the Port Moody team:

“When we are doorknocking in the suburbs, it’s often impossible to find cafes or other meet-up spots, so we’ve been meeting up at the side of the road to get our clipboards and go through a quick training. This week we had our biggest canvass so far -- 14 canvassers.

We got a lot of confused looks from commuters passing us as they returned home -- but once we started knocking on doors and talking to people the response was incredible. Together our team got over 50 pledges signed!”

Saskatoon University

The Saskatchewan riding of Saskatoon University is going to be one to watch on election day. Recently, due to a surge of excitement in the Vote Together campaign team sprung up in record time.

Leadnow organizer Leslie explains how it happened:

“Building a people powered movement in a place where you don’t know any people is pretty daunting. But sometimes all it takes is one person to help you host a meeting. At first, Saskatoon was a tough nut to crack, but in about a month, the Vote Together campaign has started to build momentum in a way that has exceeded all my expectations.

After an initial volunteer information meeting on July 15th, we launched into outreach events more quickly than I have seen with any of my teams. The first canvass was hosted by an all-star volunteer named Madison, and 7 volunteers were able to collect a dozen pledges. Two volunteers were having so much fun, they lost track of time and missed the rendezvous at the cafe. After confirming that they’d made it home okay, I took this as a sign of great things to come.

In under two months, we’ve done a ton of work in building up our team and talking to voters in the riding of Saskatoon-University. From our first meeting to the latest canvass, and all the training and planning that has happened in between, the key to our success has been the amazing volunteers who have started to raise their hands and their willingness to pull their friends, family, and neighbours into our campaign.”

Vancouver Granville

Vancouver Granville is gaining momentum fast.

Leadnow organizer Rachel fills us in on recent happenings in the riding:

“More and more people are stepping up to join local teams who are on the ground talking to key voters in Vancouver Granville - asking them to pledge to Vote Together for the best local candidate who can defeat the Conservatives. We recently launched a new local team who are focusing on talking to folks at Community Centres in the riding. Seven of us met and collected 30 pledges outside the Marpole Community Centre.”
