Riding Overview

A traditionally Conservative riding in central Nova Scotia, Cumberland—Colchester is currently held by Conservative MP Scott Armstrong, who is seeking re-election in October. Liberal candidate Bill Casey is running against him. Casey sat as MP of this riding from 1993-2009, first as a Progressive Conservative, then a Conservative, then an independent, after being expelled from the Conservative caucus for voting against the party's 2007 budget. Casey was elected as an independent in 2008, but left the seat when he moved into provincial politics in 2009, at which time Armstrong took the riding for the Conservatives in a by-election and held it in 2011 with more than 50% of the vote.
